Male pattern baldness is a common type of hair problem in men. It is also called androgenic alopecia. More than 50% of men, over the age of 40 years are suffering from male pattern baldness.
Causes for male pattern baldness:
Androgen is a male sex hormone, which is important for various function including regulating hair growth. Androgen hormone is responsible in androgenic Alopecia. Every hair has a fix growth cycle. But in androgenic Alopecia, this cycle get disturbed leads to thinning of hair. Hair follicles started to shrinks, which causes short and thin hair growth. Eventually after some time, hair follicles get destroyed causes complete break to new hair growth. Which causes baldness. If hair follicles remain alive, then there is a still hope for hair growth. Genetic factors and family history both are play important role in androgenic Alopecia.
Risk factors for male pattern baldness:
Adult who have age above 40 years are at high risk than teen agers. Family history and genetic factors also are important risk factors. Highest chance of getting male pattern baldness, if it is coming from mother’s side.
Symptoms:
Male pattern baldness begins at the hairline. Hair started getting backwards, becomes thin short and weak and slowly hair loss get into M pattern baldness. . It starts from both temporal area. After Hair loss of certain days, M pattern baldness get converted into U shape baldness. In some cases, slowly the hairline started receding from crown area of the head. In some men, the hairline will continue to recede until all or most of the hair is gone.
